How to Choose your Medical College ? Top Factors that you must consider

Choosing a medical college is one of the most important thing after your NEET UG results. Students put so much hard work and efforts so that they can get an MBBS seat. However, choosing a medical seat  based upon your rank, in this examination is equally important.

In this article we will be listing some of the major points that you should consider while preparing the priority list for your counselling process. These things have been very beautifully explained by Vikas Kumar (VMMC 21 batch) in his video. If you want you can check that too

Factors that you must consider while choosing your Medical college

(1) One of the most important things to keep in mind while choosing your college is to ensure that the college has internal PG quota in it.
If one might be getting his/her favorite branch with "TWO" digit rank , then a person with internal PG quota at the same time can get the same branch with "THREE/FOUR" digit rank.

Isn't it great!!!!!

Moreover, doing MBBS from any college doesn't make a huge difference in your future performance as a doctor, but doing PG from a reputed college does make a lot of difference in your performance as well as your worth in the society while being a doctor.

(2)  Location
Another important point which cannot be ignored is the location.
Being a college student, location plays another very important role, you will have easy access to all your needs, be it any vehicle, public transport or as simple as your munching needs.

Also ensure that college and hospital are not very much separated , but at the same time make sure that they are not very closely located as well.
Like in my college VMMC, Safdarjung hospital, both the college and hospital premises are very close to each other which make college area a bit more crowded and noisy.

But near to it, LHMC has both their hospital and college in same premises but at a distance which ensures a pleasant and better to study environment for college students.

(3) INFRASTRUCTURE MATTERS
As you will be spending more than 5 years of your life building an asset for you, you obviously need good equipments , books and all those facility to build it up, and for that college performs a major role.

So make sure you get a college which suits to you at your rank but at the same time has a good infrastructure as well.

 (4) BOND
Make sure you are aware of the bond that your college have made you sign in.
To make you aware , Delhi colleges doesn't put any rural bond on their students. But at the same time many colleges of different state put rural bond on their students. It may vary from 1year/2 years or can even exceed to 5 years.
Not serving them for the timeline they mentioned in their bond, can make you pay huge amount of money, which again vary from college to college and can be as huge as 10 lakhs and can also go to 30 lakhs.

(5) DISTANCE FROM HOME
Again this might seem a simple thing, but staying at a place which is very far from your home can be tedious and exhausting at a long run for you.
People also have money constrains and it can make you think twice whether to travel to your home or not.

But at the same time, if you have a college which is near to your home , you can even take a day off from your college and have a good nap at your home with a peaceful mind.
So, I would advise you take a nearby college rather than taking a just better medical college which is 1000km away from you home.

(6) HOSTEL
Make sur that your college have good hostel facility, in the name of no. of hostels available for you and the sharing in it.
More the no. of students in a single room, more chaotic it is .
Some colleges also serve 5-7 students in a single rooms, which is too difficult to handle in long run than it sounds.
So it is always better to choose a college which provides you single sitting room.

(7) SURROUNDING
Availability of market and food places for a college student is utmost important thing.
It should not be like you are spending a lot of time travelling to buy your imperative things.
Also, make sure that it has good places to visit on holidays with your friends, not to repeat again, in the end of the day you are a college going geek, who equally needs relaxation from his/her academics.

(8) CHOOSE YOUR COMFORT.
By this , I mean to say that always prioritize your mental peace first. For a student living in south will have to face so many difficulties, right from language, food , climate, and to making friends.

(9)RAGGING
Choose the college in metro areas rather than in rural or interior areas.
Not saying it loud, but ragging still exist in the local and interior areas of our country.
So, if you have option then try choosing a college in metro city rather than going to distant place.
In the end " MENTAL HEALTH IS VERY IMPORATANT"
